Description

Compact Cobra X FPV Goggles Modification

I wanted to give my Cobra X FPV goggles a more streamlined and travel-friendly form factor. By integrating a low-profile patch antenna on the front and re-routing the connections internally, I eliminated the need for tall antennas sticking out from the top. The end result is a sleeker, more compact design that’s easier to pack, carry, and wear—without compromising on functionality. This mod reduces snag points, improves overall balance on the head, and delivers a modern, minimalistic look for my FPV setup.

Setup

  1. 90° SMA Connectors on the Goggles
I replaced the original straight SMA connectors on the goggles’ receiver with 90° connectors. This simple swap reduces the vertical footprint of the antennas, making the goggles less bulky and easier to store or pack.
  2. Desolder & Direct-Solder the Patch Antenna
The patch antenna originally came with its own SMA connector. I carefully desoldered that connector and soldered a 50Ω screened cable directly to the antenna.
