Description

Play the ancient Egyptian board game of Jackals and Hounds; this recreation was inspired by a real-life artefact currently found in the MET: https://www.metmuseum.org/art/collection/search/543867

The model comes with ten pieces, five for each player, and the board includes a sliding drawer for storage with a basic lock based on the original artefact. The lock pieces are separate, so they will need to be glued onto the board and drawer - see image for placement suggestions. I recommend using gorilla glue - just be a bit more careful with the glue than I was! I've also included four throwing sticks that were used before the invention of six-sided dice.

The drawer may be a bit stiff, to begin with, so I recommend sliding it several times or lighting sanding the edges if this is the case.

According to historians, there have been several ideas of how the game could have been played; this informative video explains the two most accepted versions of the game (I'll look into writing up written instructions for the future):

I hope you enjoy playing this model and having a chance to travel back in time and play this once-lost game.
