Description

Update 3/24/25:

After testing various enclosures and a new speaker I have determined that they don't really make any difference. The enclosure buzzing also happens around 350 Hz, so adding some Poly-Fil to the speaker chamber does help a bit. Though should be noted the Poly-Fil can make the higher frequency peaks worse, so I wouldn't go overboard with it (stick to small amounts).

What does make a big difference is equalization. For anyone using Music Assistant I have included some equalization files that you can apply in the DSP settings for the speaker (text files attached as documentation). There are two EQ files, one for the originally used Gikfun speaker and one for the new DB Unlimited speaker. The EQ applied is a basic Harmon curve. Unfortunately, this will only apply to music played through Music Assistant.

Although the new speaker I tested didn't result in much of a difference frequency response wise, it is a better/more efficient speaker and doesn't seem to distort as bad. The alternative speaker is DB Unlimited P/N: SW400204-1 (Digikey).

More info on Music Assistants Parametric EQ: DSP Parametric Equalizer - Music Assistant. In the speaker specific EQ create a new parametric EQ and click the “Import APO/REW Preset” button then select the included EQ test file.

This is an alternative enclosure for the Home Assistant Voice Preview Edition that utilizes a 40mm speaker to improve sound quality.  It also provides 360-degree sound, whereas the original enclosure only directs sound out the front.

This release of the enclosure focused on compactness, so there may still be room for improvement on sound quality. One notable sound issue is enclosure buzzing at higher frequencies/volumes.

The mute switch, click wheel, and button can be printed using the officially published files:

This guide does not cover disassembly of the original Voice PE or assembly of the click wheel and button. For those steps see these official steps:
