Description

Don't you just hate it when you find an old beloved CD, open up the case and discover that the disc is just rattling around inside becausee the teeth of the hub clip have broken off.

In most cases it's not a big deal to replace the case, but sometimes the case is just unique, or a rare type that can't be replaced, as was the case with my CD-i discs.

This print is designed to replace the hub (also known as a “Spider”) on cases that have a recess in the back of the hub, and is ideally suited for those that originally had 8 teeth, but as long as the recess is there it might work for you.

If there are any teeth still remining, remove them then poke the part through from behind. If it's too a tight fit, causing the part to deform, trim back the vestiges of some of those teeth to allow it to pass through cleanly.  Ideally what remains of the old teeth should be able to hold the part in place without squeezing it.  If there isn't enough grip then a dot of glue on the back might help once you've confirmed that this solution works for you. Once in place, restore the tray back into the jewel case which should hold the part captive.  Insert disc.

Ideally, print in a colour that matches your disc tray. My pictures are of a grey piece to contrast against the black tray for demonstration.

I searched around and couldn't find any other 3d-printable solutions to this age-old problem.  I think this might be the first.

I hope this solution works out for you.  If so, please consider boosting :)

Very cool model, my only issue is that it can be a bit tricky to remove the disc from the clip. I tried adding a center "push" button, but was unsuccessful. Regardless, it's a good model.
