Topo Gigio is a celebrated Italian anthropomorphic puppet, created in 1958 by Maria Perego and Federico Caldura, with the collaboration of director Guido Stagnaro. The character debuted that same year during the broadcast Serata di Gala, initially voiced by the singer-songwriter Domenico Modugno. In a short time, he achieved considerable success, particularly during the 1960s and 70s, and appeared in numerous television and radio broadcasts, both Italian, such as Canzonissima and Zecchino d'oro, and foreign, such as the Ed Sullivan Show in America. Known internationally, he has starred in animated films, cartoon TV series, comics, books, advertisements, and gadgets of all kinds, starting clearly with the puppets.
