One of the hinge pins broke on the lid of my Diaper Genie Complete model diaper pail. I searched everywhere online for a replacement but none are available. Rather than buy a whole new $50 diaper pail and send this huge plastic contraption to the landfill I whipped out the calipers and modeled up a replacement.

Will this work with my Diaper Genie?

This lid is for an older version of the Diaper Genie Complete. From what I can tell from images online they've changed the design of the hinge on the newest versions, despite no change in model name. Perhaps to fix this exact issue. I do not know whether this will work on the newest versions of the Diaper Genie Complete, but if your lid looks like the one pictured (particularly the hinge portion), this should work for you. If it doesn't, I have included a STEP file so that anyone can make some tweaks to match their pail.

Printing

I chose to flatten the “dome” shape of the original lid to avoid needing an absurd amount of supports. It's not quite as pretty as the original but this can print easily with the flat surface down. A good tradeoff in my opinion. I would recommend adding small supports underneath just the two hinge pins. I used the following settings with success…

  • 0.2mm layer height
  • Supports under the two hinge pins
  • 15% Infill
  • 5 external layers to increase strength in the hinge region (doesn't impact print time much as the rest of the part is mostly solid at even 2 layers).
