To better distinguish which filament is in the AMS, I created this identifier which includes a series of plates indicating the filament type. Simply slide them into their holders according to the spools present in your AMS.

Each plate comes in 4 copies, in case multiple spools of the same filament type are in the AMS.

The plates are for the following filaments:

  • ABS
  • ASA
  • TPU AMS
  • PETG HS
  • PETG
  • PLA Basic
  • PLA CF
  • PLA +
  • PLA + 2.0
  • PLA HS
  • SUPPORT
  • SUNLU PA BLACK NYLON

If needed, contact me if you would like an identification for another filament type. I will then update the model to add it.

For the spool slots in the AMS, I used green in slot #2, white in #3, and black in #4. By using the same colors in the same slots, the project will be printed as shown in the photos.

For the walls, I enabled Arachne mode, which is essential for perfect lettering. I avoided Ironing mode, which did not produce good results on small letters.

After several tests, I found that this profile offered, in my opinion, the best possible quality, though the speed is, of course, slower.

The top of each plate is equipped with a small 5 mm deep molding, allowing the plates to be easily inserted into and removed from the holders.

I attached the 4 holders with 3 repositionable double-sided adhesive pads per holder (I cut them with a punch).

The double-sided adhesive used is Xica, a washable gel adhesive tape that does not damage the surface of the holders or the AMS plastic.

I also recommend using a repositionable double-sided adhesive. I will not be held responsible if you attach the holders with glue or any other material that could damage your AMS plastic.

The detailed settings (already present in the 3MF) are visible in the photos.

Update 06/06/2026 :: New plate added 06/06/26 — this one has an editable part! You will find 2 separate text objects, so you can add your own text and adjust it according to your filaments. A big thank you to SaschaF1 for the request!

Update 04/19/2026 : The original file now includes a Hilbert curve top layer pattern on the identification plates and plate holders. The top surface is significantly finer, cleaner, and more aesthetic.

I have also added a second profile optimized for 0.2 mm nozzles:

  • Layer height: 0.12 mm
  • No more need for Arachne mode thanks to the precision of the 0.2 mm nozzle
  • Top layers also in Hilbert curve

Print time increases with 0.2 mm, but the result is well worth it. Owners of multi-nozzle printers will naturally save time during multi-material prints.

Here is the result with the new 0.2 mm nozzle profile and Hilbert curve top layer:

Happy printing everyone.
