Description

“3D Trainy” - The ultimate Rollingstock based 3D Printing Benchmark Locomotive 🚂

Meet 3D Trainy, the new 3D printing benchmark model designed by MBD as an alternative to everyone’s favourite, Benchy. This compact locomotive puts your printer through its paces, testing overhangs, bridging, fine details, and support material removal—all in a single print!

Key Features & Print Challenges:

Bridging & Overhangs: The smokestack, boiler body and cabin windows feature challenging overhangs and bridges.
Dimensional Accuracy: Wheels, cabin, smokestack and overall length/height test tolerances and dimensional accuracy.
Fine Detail Resolution: Embossed text, rivets, and panel lines assess how well your printer handles intricate details.

Interior Model Detail: Control gauges, leavers and boiler door demonstrates the ability to print interior detail without stringing.
Layer Adhesion & Warping Check: The locomotive body has large flat surfaces to detect warping and adhesion issues.
Surface Finish: The roof provides the opportunity to check surface finish quality and layer patterning

Support material removal Test: Designed to access the quality of finish and the difficulty of removing support materials.
Cooling & Stringing Check: Chimney and rear coupler test cooling settings, reducing stringing and drooping.

Printing Recommendations:

🚫No, supports needed! (obligatory #Lionel Hutz reference*)

🔍Layer height: 0.1–0.2mm

🔄Print-in-place no moving parts

🖨️Optimized for FDM printing but probably works in resin too! (I don't have a resin printer to check so please comment if it works)

* Support Material very much needed that's the point!
