Description

The pumo pugliese is a traditional symbol of Puglia.
It is not a fruit, but a handcrafted ceramic object, often associated with popular culture and superstition.

### What is the pumo?
- The pumo (or "pomo") is a decoration in the shape of a flower bud, typically made of ceramic. It has a rounded shape with stylised leaves that open upwards, a symbol of rebirth and prosperity.
- The name derives from the Latin *"pomum"* (apple or fruit), but it represents a bud, a symbol of life, growth and luck.

### Meaning and uses:
1. Lucky charm: The pumo is considered an auspicious object, often given as a gift to wish prosperity and fertility.
2. Decoration: It is used to embellish balconies, terraces and entrances of houses in Puglia, especially in Salento. It is a typical element of local architecture and craftsmanship.
3. Cultural symbol: It represents the Apulian tradition and the mastery of ceramic artisans, especially from Grottaglie, famous for its ceramic production.

### Fun fact:
- Pumi are often painted in bright colors, such as blue, green or yellow, and can be decorated with floral or geometric patterns.
- They are a very popular souvenir among tourists visiting Puglia.

In short, the Apulian pumo is an icon of Apulian culture and craftsmanship, rich in symbolic meanings and traditions.
