Print Profile(2)

Description
- Digital model based on a real sculpture of a votive statuette found in archaeological excavations on the island of Ibiza. These figures were used in temples or places of worship dedicated to Tanit.
- Who is the goddess Tanit?
Tanit is a goddess of Phoenician and Carthaginian origin, considered the principal deity of Carthage. She was the goddess of fertility, the moon, war, and protection, and was also associated with abundance and motherhood. She was widely venerated in the western Mediterranean, especially in Ibiza, where she became a protective deity of the island. Her characteristic symbol is a triangle with a horizontal line and a circle on top, representing a stylized figure of the goddess. She is related to the goddess Astarte and to later cults of mother goddesses.
