Description

Boost Me (for free)

Boost me to support the creation of even more awesome models!

After realizing the potential of metal-filled PLA material and the ability for it to patina, I wanted to give the Statue of Liberty a go.

My intent was to create a realistic-looking replica using copper-filled PLA by Protopasta.

  • Please note, the model requires some post processing in order to get the look in the pictures.*
  • The print is split between 2 plates so you don't need to have an AMS to print. It may be necessary to sand down the stub coming out of the base for the statue to sit down perfectly.
  • The original design is not my own, I made necessary adjustments for the statue to print with no supports using a base file sourced from : https://cults3d.com/en/3d-model/art/statue-of-liberty-national-monument-petrb91

In order to achieve the Patina Look you see in the images you will need to do the following:

  1. once printed, take some 400 grit sand paper bit and lightly scuff all areas you can get to. This exposes the metal flakes for a better effect.
  2. get an air-tight container that can hold the statue inside
  3. Mix 50/50 mixture of Clear household Ammonia with White Vinegar (adding a bit of table salt into the mixture)
  4. elevate the model within the container so it does not sit in the liquid.
  5. Pour your mixture up to the base of the statue and close it
  6. allow it to sit and check it between 2-4 hours. You should see blueing starting to appear
  7. remove and let dry
  8. glue to the base and you're done!

The filament I used:

  • 740571 ProtoPlant Copper Composite
  • ELEGOO Matte PLA Filament Beige

Thank you for visiting my page and taking the time to print my models. Your support is truly appreciated. I never expected to have so many people following me and fueling my passion for creating the models that I create!
