Description

This is a wall hanger for a Griot's Garage G9 Random Orbital Polisher with an included but optional hook for also storing the power cord.

Being a large and bulky tool the G9 is awkward to store in a toolbox or elsewhere, this is a convenient way to keep it neat and also accessible.

The holding surface is contoured for a positive fit with both the polisher head and handle, this avoids excessive pressure being placed on any one point of the polisher and will evenly distribute the tool's weight while hanging instead. The contoured fit will not allow the backing plate to slide forward into the wall or backward once hanging, and it will largely self guide the G9 into the correct holding position during placement. There is an 8mm clearance between the backing plate and the wall once hanging, and a 5mm clearance between the factory 6" backing plate edge and the holder when the DA is in the minimum random position, so it will always fit successfully.

The hanger is 35mm wide at the base, the width of a stud, so even on bare framing it will be fully braced for support against the available surface area. Using the provided print profile, the three screw holes will print with 5mm of solid infill on all sides, and are countersunk so you can confidently sink screws to hang this on the wall. 3" or longer screws are recommended to ensure at least an inch of screw enters the stud. The hanger body itself prints with 3 walls for strength.

To use the optional cord hook, insert it into the hole in the bottom of the hanger until it drops down into resting position, then wedge the tapered stopper into place above the hook starting with the narrow end. It will sit flush with the edge of the hook once fully inserted. Note there is only a 0.5mm difference between the narrow and wide end of the stopper but it should still be simple to tell which end is the narrow side, this aids in providing an easy fit even without perfect printer calibration. The stopper is removable if you wish to remove the hook or if something goes wrong and the hook needs replacing. The hook prints with 4 walls to provide what should be sufficient sturdiness for its purpose.

This model does print with supports under the top of the holder, which are easy to remove. It is perfectly likely you could flip it over to use less support filament by printing on the face. My thought for choosing this orientation was that the countersinks would not be printed as overhanging circles where it would be a shame if they were and failed, and it is very easy to see where the large support transitions to the actual model and should be removed vs trying to spot the transition of two very thin and wide layers of supports on the face. I didn't attempt to print in the opposite orientation as this worked well the first time, but feel free to try and report back if you do.

Pictured example printed in Polymaker clear PETG.

this looks great - any chance it could fit the baby bro G8 model too?

Unfortunately I don't own a G8, otherwise I'd make one for it, sorry!
