Hello!

 

In my line of work, we use a plasma cutting machine Spiro cutlass that uses a guide chain to prevent pinching of the various cables supplying the torch during lateral movements. After numerous breakages over time on various original links, I decided to model them to be able to print them as needed to replace the broken originals. Not finding any files online, I therefore undertook the modeling on OnShape of a link and a closing clip, taking my original dimensions. 

 

It took quite a few hours and 6 prototypes to achieve the result I was looking for, with the correct maximum angle of rotation of the link and a secure closing clip, but also the correct infill and support settings. The original guide chain model on the cutting table is the reference 162P II from Gleason Reel; it is used on many cutting tables.

 

I provide:

 

  • The .3mf with tray filling including 5 Links and 5 Clips for an A1 / P1 / P1S / X1 Carbon 
  • The .3mf with one link 
  • The .3mf with one clip 
  • The .stl with one link
  • The .stl with one clip 

     

The .3mf files are pre-configured with the correct positioning, quality, support settings, etc. You are free to make other adjustments, but these work well.

 

The internal dimensions for cable passage are 6cm wide by 2.8cm high. The link axes are 8mm in diameter and the external dimensions are 4.2cm high / 7.4cm wide / 6.8cm long.

 

Regarding the materials used, I made mine with what I had on hand, namely Bambulab's PLA MATTE, as the stress applied to these links is rather low and is mainly located on the axes of rotation; this is why it is important to print them flat. It is of course quite possible to print them in ABS or Carbon for those who can, to increase their lifespan.

 

I have not yet had time to try scaling for use on other machines requiring larger / smaller cable passages, but I think there should be no problem; feel free to let me know in the comments if you have tried.

Hello, as I noted in the ad I think the chain is suitable for being reduced or increased in size but I haven't tried printing it smaller I'm printing a test and will post the result in a reduced size
