Description

Another Train Track Collection…. But Wait!

There are already many tracks and track sets for the typical wooden train suppliers such as Brio, Hape, Ikea Lillabo etc.

So why did I design my own tracks?

Well, many of the rails already available are based on the designs of wooden rails optimized for machining. These are therefore only suitable for 3D printing to a limited extent.
As I have already tried out several different rails and printed numerous other designs myself, I knew that there was a lot of potential for improvement here!
The tolerances of the connectors often don't fit very well either.

So I sat down to do it myself, because I wanted to have rails that were fun for me and my son and that didn't have any design flaws.

Update V2:

I added V2 of the Bridge - i optimized the heigth of the Bridge and especially the tunnel hight so that bigger trains can pass the tunnel.

This change was requested a few times.

I leaf the Original Version online as well, so you can choose which one you prefer.

Key features

So what makes my rail designs so special?

  1.  All rail profiles were drawn by myself! I started with a blank sheet of paper everywhere. All profiles were carefully measured to find a good middle ground between the different manufacturer tolerances.
  2. carefully rounded and chamfered the corners and edges so that the rails fit well in the hand
  3. the designs were created specifically for 3D printing and attention was paid to good printability.
  4. I have designed the non-symmetrical rails, such as curves and turnouts with double-sided profile! -> This allows them to be turned like the manufacturer's originals. Please follow the instructions below for perfect printing of the overhangs. Since an AMS is required for this technique, there is also a version without double-sided profile - for easier printing and less filament consumption - so everyone can find the right version for them.

The Model:

A beautiful Bridge out of three Parts with a Tunnel in the Main Section.

Connector Fit

I did a lot of testing so this design uses my V2 Connectors - this Connector is compatible with all track manufacturers I know - If you have any problems feel free to get in touch with me!

Here you can see an example of the fit with Original Brio Tracks:

Recommended Print Settings:

Recommended Material: PLA / PLA Matte

Layer Height: 0,2mm Standard - use dynamic layer height for best quality on the round parts - I recommend using my profile

Wallgenerator: Arachne

Wall Lines: 2

Infill: 15% Gyroid infill - use modifiers for stronger connectors

Auto Tree Support

Notes

Please take care of the safety of the parts yourself! The files have no dangerous small parts - the parts are designed to be stable. However, the actual stability depends on your print settings and the filament used.

Really great bridge. The standard Ikea train fits but the motorized one needs a bit of help to fit under while driving on a track

Thank you very much for your rating and comment! Yeah the motors of the Trains are not very strong. So they need a little help on the Bridge

underpass is slightly too short for my train, but I will adjust the scale and re-print!

Thank you very much for your Rating and Comment - I designed the Underpass like the Original Bridge from Brio - for the most trains it fit, but I also own one that's to big. I tried a Version with bigger underpass, but then the track was to steep, so I decided to go with the Original Measurements.
