Annnyway…
Endless Design Lab’s Original Level Five Sierpiński Triangular Bipyramid Fractal adds another layer of detail with five levels of recursion. The design is optimized for vase mode printing, allowing it to print seamlessly, efficiently, and with minimal filament use. It also prints cleanly without requiring any supports.
With its self-similar structure, this fractal offers a visually engaging pattern that’s perfect for viewing from multiple angles. From the front, it appears to be a solid shape, but when viewed from the top or point down, you’ll notice intricate holes throughout its structure.
I've included a 3MF for a plate with two halves. Print both halves and glue them together to capture the full self-similar fractal design, or print just one half as a pyramid—it still looks awesome on its own!
Please note: this model should not be scaled down unless you’re using a nozzle smaller than 0.4mm, such as 0.2mm or 0.25mm. It can, however, be scaled up for larger prints.
UPDATE: I've added the STL and 3MF for the XL version! (It's the black one from the thumbnail image)
Stay tuned for Level Six, coming soon!
Print Settings:
This model was created and optimized for FDM printers with vase mode enabled. For best results, use spiral vase mode with the smooth spiral option unchecked in your slicer settings. If you don’t see the smooth spiral checkbox in your slicer, no worries—just be sure to use Spiralize Outer Contour (or a similarly named option in your slicer, such as spiral/vase mode).
Ensure your slice gap closing radius is set to 0, as this is critical for proper vase mode printing. Without this setting, the slicer may close gaps that are necessary for the model to slice and print correctly.
Enable the “Skirt” option in your slicer to maintain consistent nozzle pressure from the start. Without it, the first layer’s corners may appear deformed due to unprimed nozzle pressure.
If you find yourself having trouble, don’t hesitate to reach out. I’m happy to help!
