Description
They told me it wasn't possible to make a 5-pin 3-D printed cylinder lock.
I told them to eat their hats.
Presenting a fully-functioning 5-Pin Cylinder lock. Mounted in a false book vault because why not?
The book vault has textured edges for that authentic pages vibe, and an option for a decorative cover.
Important notes:
- Yes, it works.
- The initial friction between the parts will take some wiggling and jiggling to overcome. Graphite lubricant may help with this, though I haven't tried. You may think it's broken at first.
- This WILL print on an A1 Mini but you will need a plate per cover.
Things I found worked best:
- Print the covers with tree supports (auto is fine), DISABLE “from build plate only”
- Print the pages with normal supports, ENABLE “from build plate only”
- If you are printing on a “bed slinger”, print the pins with a brim
- For best lock action, print the lock plate at extra fine quality (0.8mm layer height)
You will need:
- 5x 15mm-long springs. I've used a diameter of 2mm but 3mm might also work.
- 6" of 3mm metal rod. You could probably replace this with 2" 3mm printed rods but alas I had the rods at home already.
