The Aircraft

F-106 Delta Dart

Overview:
The Convair F-106 was an all-weather interceptor and the ultimate evolution of the F-102. It served as a backbone of U.S. air defense during the Cold War.

Development History:
Introduced in 1959, the F-106 was faster and more capable than its predecessor. It utilized advanced avionics and an upgraded delta wing.

Historical Significance:
The F-106 held the nickname "The Ultimate Interceptor" for its effectiveness and remained in service until the late 1980s.

  • Holds the world record for the fastest single-engine jet aircraft at 1,525 mph.
  • Later used as a drone in weapons testing.
