Description

04/12/2025 - Update

  • Added a 0.4mm nozzle design and profile.  The 0.6mm nozzle version is still my recommendation for extra strength.

Background

This is a redesign of my MakerWorld featured Subaru EJ low mess oil filter funnel I designed and developed over the years.  This new design is specifically for smooth spiral vase mode printing, eliminating seams and minimizing material, resulting in exceptionally clean printing.  It is compatible with a genuine Subaru Oil Filter PN: 15208AA100 used on the WRX/STI EJ series engine.

Function 1 - Oil Filter Removal

  1. Crack the filter loose by hand.
  2. Ensuring the flutes are lined up, press-fit the funnel over top of the filter.  If you push lightly while turning, you can feel when the funnel flutes engage the filter flutes when they are in alignment.
  3. Slowly loosen the filter until oil starts flowing from the bottom of the funnel.
  4. When the oil quits flowing, unscrew the filter to remove and discard.

Function 2 - Oil Filter Pre-Fill

  1. Ensure the funnel is clean prior to pre-filling the filter.
  2. Place the funnel so the outlet sits down inside of the oil filter threaded inlet.
  3. Holding the funnel and the filter with 1 hand, slowly fill the filter with new oil.
  4. You may need to top off the filter several times as the oil makes it's way through the filter media.

Function 3 - Fill Tube Funnel

  1. Ensure the funnel is clean prior to filling the engine.
  2. Unscrew the oil fill cap.
  3. Screw in the oil filter funnel until it bottoms out.  Do not overtighten.
  4. Fill the engine with oil.
  5. Check the oil level and top off as necessary.
  6. Remove the funnel and re-install the oil fill tube cap.

It’s getting to hot. The only easy way to fix it is to slow the entire print down. You’ll have to lower the volumetric speed in the filament settings.

okay thanks, I’ll give that a shot. Would opening the door help or will it cause the PETG to shrink. X1C

Opening the door can help. Lowering temp by 5deg may help as well.

Awesome! Glad it helps. I have been able to keep my oil changes mess free with this, a fumoto valve and a FloTool super duty drain container.

Probly a dumb question from a noob...when I pull it up in the slicer it looks like a solid object (no holes). What am I doing wrong?

You need to print in vase mode but the pin width is pretty specific depending on nozzle size.
