Description

My in-laws have a bullfrog spa. They frequently break the clips on their hot-tub cover (near as we can tell they're designed to break so as not to damage the cover) and were tired of paying for replacement parts all the time.

Enter the 3D printer! A few quick minutes reverse-engineering the clip and a quick print later, and we reduced the cost to replace these clips from dollars to pennies. These printed clips break in the same way as the old ones, preventing damage to the cover while offering a cheap replacement.

Profile Notes:

Print with ABS or ASA (the profile is natively ABS, but if you're like me half the time you download the model and slice it yourself) for best results.

I've included 3 different build plates with clips oriented differently. They work, as follows:

  1. The first build plate always prints nicely, but results in the weakest clips.
  2. The second build plate is a little stronger and a little more likely to fail.
  3. The third build plate is the strongest print orientation, but the clip that loops into the cover frequently fails (maybe ½ the time). Print at your own risk!
