This is a complete trilobite fossil.
Trilobites are extinct marine arthropods, and their fossils are characteristic of the Paleozoic Era. They are named because their dorsal carapace is divided into a central axial lobe and two lateral pleural lobes by two longitudinal furrows. A trilobite's body is clearly divided into three parts: a cephalon (head), a thorax, and a pygidium (tail). Most lived on the shallow seafloor, crawling or swimming, and fed on small organisms. They appeared in the early Cambrian period, became completely extinct by the end of the Permian period, and evolved into over fifteen thousand species during their long geological history.
