Description

Pool Level Meter – Skimmer Clip Indicator

Keeping your pool at the right water level is important for proper skimmer operation. If the water is too low, the pump can run dry and get damaged. Too high, and the skimmer won’t function efficiently. This simple clip-on meter provides a clear, visual reference right at the skimmer.

Default Skimmer Fit

This model is designed for my in-ground pool skimmer with:

  • Vertical opening height: ~5.5″
  • Border depth (clip engagement): ~0.88″

Model dimensions:

  • Total height: 6.5″
  • Indicator spacing: 1″ increments

It clips directly into the skimmer faceplate and provides an easy-to-read water level gauge:

  • Green = Safe water level
  • Blue = Getting too low or too high
  • Red = Critical (pump risk or inefficient skimming)

Just glance at the skimmer to know if your water level is where it should be—no guessing needed.

Scaling for Other Skimmer Sizes

Skimmer sizes vary between above-ground and in-ground models. This design can be scaled in your slicer to match different openings:

  • Standard skimmers: ~5.5″ tall 
  • Wide-mouth skimmers: ~6″–6.5″ tall openings
  • Clip depth adjustment: If your skimmer border is thicker/thinner than 0.88″, scale the X-axis until the clip engages snugly.

To adapt this model to other skimmer sizes, measure both the vertical opening height and the border depth (clip engagement thickness) of your skimmer. Then scale in your slicer using:

  • Height scale factor (X-axis)  = your_skimmer_height ÷ 5.5 in
  • Border scale factor (Z-axis)  = your_skimmer_border_depth ÷ 0.88 in

Keep the Y-axis (length) unchanged unless you want to adjust the overall reach of the indicators. 

This ensures the meter aligns with your skimmer’s water level range and clips securely in place.

Printing Recommendations

  • Material: PETG or ASA (recommended for UV and water resistance; PLA may warp outdoors)
  • Layer height: 0.2 mm
  • Infill: 20–30% (higher if extra rigidity is needed)
  • Supports: Not required
  • Perimeters: 3+ walls recommended for strength in the clip area

Assembly

No tools or hardware required. Simply slide the clip over the skimmer faceplate and the meter is ready to use.
