MakerWorld “Limited Kit Challenge” Is Here

To help great ideas get discovered and built—and to unlock more creative possibilities with Maker’s Supply kits—we are launching a long-term, recurring community program.

The “Limited Kit Challenge” Series

The Limited Kit Challenge is an official prompt-based, community co-creation series.

How it works:

  • Each round focuses on a specific Maker’s Supply kit or selected parts
  • The community is invited to submit ideas within a limited time
  • Outstanding ideas are selected, and kits and filaments are provided for free to support creation
  • Published projects may receive promotion opportunities and BOM commission incentives

Frequency: Once per month (tentative) Whether you’re an experienced creator or a user with a great idea, everyone is welcome to participate.

  • All MakerWorld model creators
  • Design enthusiasts and idea contributors (you do not need to be a creator to submit an idea)

How to Join (Phase 1: Idea Submission)

Please share:

  • What you want to create (use case or scenario)
  • The general form or function of the model (images are recommended)
  • Why a rechargeable power kit is essential to your idea

Both users and creators are encouraged to participate.

Creators can also reply to and claim ideas they are interested in creating.

Timeline: Within 30 days of this post, we will continuously review submissions and select promising ideas to support.

🏆 Official Selection & Kit Support

Idea Selection

  • At least 10 high-quality ideas will be selected
  • Criteria include:
    • Originality
    • Effective use of the kit
    • Feasibility
    • Community engagement

Results will be announced in the comments, and selected creators and/or idea contributors will be mentioned.

Kit Delivery & Creator Support

  • Selected creators will be contacted via private message
  • A brief creation plan (design approach and estimated timeline) will be required
  • All required kits, parts, and filaments will be provided free of charge
  • Official support will be available throughout the creation process

🛠Creation & Publishing Requirements

Selected creators must:

  1. Complete a project based on the Rechargeable Power Kit
  2. Publish the model on MakerWorld with:
    1. The correct BOM attached
  3. Share at least a community post after publishing that includes:
    1. The hashtag #KitChallenge and #RechargeablePowerKit
    2. Such as Inspiration, design process, assembly steps, final results, and any challenges encountered

Failure to meet delivery or posting requirements may affect eligibility for future challenges.

Promotion & Earnings Support

Successfully published projects may receive:

  • Official Promotion Resources
  • Inclusion in an official collection
  • Ongoing BOM commission earnings

@makerbymistake It seems MakeWorld is making attempts to curb AI generated image usage in model description. But you all use a lot of AI generated images in your posts/marketing. Doesn't that undermine your attempts to curb the use of AI images that don't represent how the models will print?

@UnstableFocus They should only allow actual photographs of printed parts. Renderings can also be very deceiving.

@davedamon A miniature display for your warhammer, D&D or other miniature game figures. It'd feature two elements—the inner platform powered by the rechargeable power kit, and an outer diorama base that you could swap out based on the type of miniature. The platform could be used to display a monster in the middle of some ancient, a tactical squad in the midst of urban debris, or an adventuring party inside a monsters lair.

@Bright03_3D 1. What I want to create: A fully 3D-printed, motorized desktop carousel serving as a mesmerizing piece of kinetic art. 2. General form/function: I built a working cardboard prototype (see photo) and want to engineer the final version entirely from 3D printed parts. Transitioning to 3D-printed gears will make the mechanical base vastly more accurate and significantly smaller, eliminating the bulky cardboard for a sleek, realistic model. Powered by one motor, it features: Opposing Rotation: Two concentric rings of horses rotating in opposite directions. Galloping Action: A hidden mechanism makes the outer horses move up and down while spinning. 3. Why a rechargeable kit is essential: It provides power to drive the complex gear train without tethering the model to a wall. Being wire-free allows it to be a true centerpiece. The motor and battery can be cleanly hidden within the downsized base.

@ozarkexpedition This is such a fun theme. I think I would design a compact, continuous-loop marble run meant to live on a desk and run indefinitely while I'm working. There is so many great marble machines on MW, but I don't think this category ever gets old. I'd like to explore some new lift ideas we've been noodling. We'd try to keep this a dense layout of tracks with small interactions, and occasional split paths. I love the idea of keeping it wireless with this kit. The other comments so far look like wonderful suggestions as well!

@weikert I'd like to design and build a marble battle game. The game will use stainless steel balls from Maker's Supply and have rotating, swappable features powered by the kit's motor and battery. The attached screenshot is of a very early, rough design and does not show the spring-powered, rotating ball launcher that players will use to fire the balls at each other's goals - but it shows all of the other main features. An automatic, resettable scoring system powered by the rolling balls will also be featured with a track that runs around to the side when players score against their opponent. The "goalie" piece is shown - this is how players will attempt to protect their goals and launch a ball back at their opponent (or at least in that general direction). The cage is pictured - this is fully printable and slides down over the arena, keeping the players safe and the balls from being ejected from the play area. I would really love the opportunity to participate in this challenge!

@TeraE Concept: Interactive Bird Shower Fountain I would like to create a self-circulating shower device for small birds (e.g., budgerigars). Water is pumped from a basin and released from above, then falls back to form a closed loop. The sound and motion of dripping water can stimulate birds’ curiosity and encourage natural bathing behavior. The structure includes a reservoir, a motor-driven pump (powered by the Rechargeable Power Kit), and a top outlet to create a gentle shower effect. A semi-enclosed design helps reduce splashing. For visibility, I plan to use transparent acrylic/PC panels, or provide a clear 3D-printed version depending on the result. The rechargeable power kit is essential for stable, continuous operation without external wiring or frequent battery changes.

@lorinnpro I’ll be developing a full-size version as part of my project, but based on that concept, this motor could also be used to drive a smaller polishing unit, essentially a compact rock polisher intended for jewelry, such as bracelets, rings, and similar pieces.

@squareroot My grass dies each year from weeds and dryness. So, I must replant the grass seeds every year and spend hours watering my lawn to help them grow. Using just a rechargeable power kit, I can motorize an attachment to my hose. This attachment will act like the ones from hardware stores where they automatically spray water over the entire lawn. The motor will connect to the attachment and create a spinning motion to spread water across my lawn without having to move the hose manually. Each day, I can turn on the power supply, watch my lawn be perfectly watered evenly, and get other stuff done. After the sprinkler-like tool is done, I can detach the battery pack and charge it over night for use the next day. I think that so many people will love to enjoy this print because it makes lawn watering autonomous and perfectly even. Plus, 3d printed designs are so much cheaper than the hardware store variant that might not even work as well. Please consider my idea for these reasons. Thank you.
