From Sketch to 3D Print: My Shower Curtain Fix
From Sketch to 3D Print: My Shower Curtain FixI love when makers share not just their models, but the stories behind them. So here’s mine: how a clingy shower curtain led me to sketch, design, and 3D print a simple magnetic solution that I now use every day.Enjoy my story!!!💡 It Started With a ProblemAll I wanted was a peaceful shower — but the curtain kept clinging to my legs like some haunted plastic ghost. 👻👻👻 The culprit? Warm air rising and pulling the curtain inward (thanks physics!).That frustration kicked off a fun design challenge. Since my bathtub is metallic, I tested a magnet — and it stuck!  Time to model a better solution!!!---🧲 From Paper Sketch to PrintIt began on paper — literally. I sketched out a basic concept to hold the curtain in place using magnets.Quick sketch on a random piece of paper!! XDFrom there, I jumped into Fusion 360 and modeled a compact magnetic stopper. I wanted it to hide the magnets, be easy to print, and stay put without damaging the tub.  Each stopper uses 2 × Ø10×2mm magnets placed with the same polarity orientation — making sure to test with the bathtub first!Test for magnet fitting and layer pause Prototype completed!!!---🧱 The Wall Holder DesignNext, I needed a tidy way to store the stoppers when not in use.So I created a wall-mounted holder: - Holds 3 stoppers vertically - Attaches via a 20×50×1.5mm magnetic strip behind it - Optional screw hole for an M4 flat-head… you know… just in case XDIteration 1 on Fusion 360First test with improvements designedOther improvementsRecess and hole designedSlide & dimensional testThis keeps everything clean and accessible — no rattling around or mess!---🧪 Testing It AllAfter a few test prints, tweaks, and face redesigns, it was ready. Here’s the final setup in black and red PLA (I haven't ordered PETG yet!) — magnetic, neat, and functional:Prototypes and final! And here’s one in action during a shower:Wall mounted with the magnet stripIn function!!! YAY!!! ---⚙️ Print Settings- Material: PETG (recommended) or PLA - Layer Height: 0.2 mm (Because we want that high quality!!!) - Infill: 15% - Supports: Not required - Magnets (stopper): 2 × Ø10×2mm - Magnet (holder): 1 × Ø10×2mm - Magnetic Strip: 20×50×1.5mm - Wall Screw (optional): M4 flat-head---🛠️ Fusion 360 Design HighlightsFor fellow CAD enthusiasts, here's a peek inside the model: This helped ensure the stoppers fit snugly, the magnets aligned properly, and the back stayed flush with the wall.---🚿 Download & Try It!If you’ve ever fought with your shower curtain, this might just be your favourite print this week.✅ Clean look   ✅ Fast print   ✅ Everyday usefulness👉 [Check out the full model and print files here]https://makerworld.com/en/models/1654233-magnetic-shower-curtain-stoppers-wall-holder#profileId-1749279---❤️ Let’s Make Better ShowersIf you try it out, let me know what you think! Feedback is welcome!!! I hope this little story entertained and inspired you!!!Happy printing!
