When I was using my kamado joe, I always had to guess how far the bottom vent should be opened and memorize the top vent as well. With this handy tool I just stick it in there, close the vent to this measurement and read how far I should open the top vent. Saves me the guess work and even when I have to adapt my temperatures, it's quick and easy.
