Description

Twisted Temple - The adventurous game of twists, turns and traps! To win, be the first explorer to reach the top. The terrifying temple features spinning pathways, perilous pitfalls and danger lurking around every corner. Reach ladders to climb to the next level while avoiding snakes and skulls, and discovering valuable tools and artifacts to help you on the way!

Our family has been having a blast developing and playing this game and we are excited to share it with you. Some of our favorite features in this game are:

•The pathways that spin to change the game with a roll of the dice.

•The entire game rotates to follow your explorer around the board.

• The trap that sends your explorer down a hidden chute and back to the bottom.
• The glowing temple top powered by an LED tea light. Most standard LED tealights fit well.

Although there are many colors used in printing this game, it can be produced with or without an AMS. Use the suggested color scheme or create your own! Here are the filaments shown in the photo:
Temple - Matte dark green
Pathways - Matte desert tan, with matte red and black

Ladders - Basic gold

Players pieces - Basic Blue, Yellow, Orange and Bambu green

Artifacts - Silk copper

Gems - Silk dual midnight blaze

snakes - Green and black

skulls - white and black

Assembly - skulls and ladders will need to be glued onto the temple. I used regular superglue with a fine tip for aiming. There are outlines for the skulls and holes for the ladders for easy placement. Posts will need to be glued to the bottoms of explorers, snakes, and artifacts. The top temple uses a little CA glue as well. Use a little patience and don't glue anything to your fingers like I did!

The suggested rules sheet is included. Feel free to be creative, try it out and make suggestions to improve the game. If you have any questions on gameplay, leave a comment or send me a message. Enjoy the adventure!!

You will have to add your own dice - or better yet find one to 3D print!  Perhaps I will make a custom one soon!

11-8: Updated file to resolve all negative shapes for easier STL export
11-9: Made hole in backpack deeper
11-11: Modified Rules:
Rule Change:
Discard unchosen items when you land on them instead of moving them.
Clarified a few things better:
Can't go up a ladder with another explorer there
All spaces resolve immediately for all players.
Boot powers: adds + or - to your die roll, but not the original die roll. Ex. roll a 3, you can move 2 or 4.
Updated some wording.

I fell in love with this game the very first time I laid eyes on it, and I’d like to share my story. My son is autistic. He usually never plays games, because his fear of losing is so strong that he doesn’t even dare to try. But just the fact that he could choose which game to print, decide the colors, and help set up the board made his eyes shine with excitement. You didn’t just create a toy. You created dreams. And for that, I am forever grateful. Please know that you have already changed someone’s life.

Great print! It left the printer earlier today and my kids are still asking to get "one more game" in. Thanks for putting this out there! Would love to see a version where the skulls and ladders are printed in the tower already, make use of that AMS a little more. Thanks for offering this for free! Would love to buy you a beer for your hard work. Definitely boosted the model, worth much more than a simple boost imo.

A truly magnificent game concept and a very successful implementation. To ensure we can easily transport the game to friends without risk of loss or damage, I have designed a frame that simply slides over the game and secures in three places via spring contacts. The accessory box also fits underneath. I have translated the instructions into German. Thank you so much for sharing this with us. By the way… I have added the frame to the print profiles

Could you please share the instructions? That way, not everyone needs to translate them individually

Storage Box for all the little bits. It fits under the temple, but on top of the spinner base. I have to run a test print tonight, but if it works I'll post it in the profiles!

Wow, you could even make it one piece with the spinner base!

I thought about that, but you might want it out on the table while setting up and playing. A prospective rule update might have you discarding items when you swap them out as well. It fits great and still allows the temple to spin if you don't want it out. You could merge them in slicer as well if desired.

Easy print, and fun game. It would be nice to have a locking pin on each level so the board doesn't move around when people are moving characters, I find with my kids I have to hold the rings to prevent this.

A few questions on the rules. Are items intended to be single use and discarded after using? Or do you keep them and use them as much as you want (until getting another item)? If another explorer lands on you and you get bumped down a level and land on a ladder space, it's clear that you don't immediately go back up. But is it intended that you go up the ladder at the start of your next turn? If so, it would seem that most times in this case you would move up and start your turn on top of the explorer that bumped you down. Or do you roll and only move up if you land on another ladder? Say I roll a 5 and that would put me on a snake. Is it intended that I move 4 spaces and then stop, or does "Stay where your are" mean to stay in the space you started at? Is the point of the player colored X that it marks where my adventurer should always start (if they get sent down the chute, for example). If not, then what is the purpose? When swapping out an item for one I find on the board, does my old item go on the board in its place or is it discarded? It would seem that the item I'm getting rid of would not go on the board because my adventurer occupies the only peg hole, but the word "swap" implies that it does go on the board. If I choose not to swap, where does the item on the board go (again, because there is only one peg hole) What is the point of the backpack token? I can only hold one item but do I actually need the token for any reason other than to remind me I can only have one item? If I land on an arrow, and the resulting dial movement causes another player to end up in front of a skull or ladder, do they activate that space? If so, does this happen at the beginning of their next turn or immediately? When bumped down by the skull, if you would land on a snake you go down an extra level. What about if I am bumped down by another adventurer and would land on a snake? I assume the same thing as with a skull? Just a comment having not played the game, but whip and compass seem weak compared to the other items. They each essentially give you two possible spaces you can land on. But the boot and jewel can each give 3 different options. I can't really ever see not picking the boot power when I have the jewel honestly. It just seems like clearly the best non-jewel item. Give me 3 choices of spaces to avoid snakes and skulls and the pit, find ladders, knock down other adventurers? That seems way better than 1 random re-roll or an item that lets me avoid snakes/skulls but with none of the other benefits of the boots.

First of all thank you so much for your analysis and questions. I appreciate the feedback from the community to make sure this game is great and the rules are clear. My intention with the rules was to make them coincide with what would make sense if this was a real world temple being explored and scaled. So if you run into any unclear scenarios, just do what makes sense if this were really happening (if that makes sense). Anyway here are my best answers to your questions. I'll be starting a FAQ section and update rules as needed.

If another explorer lands on you and you get bumped down a level and land on a ladder space, it's clear that you don't immediately go back up. But is it intended that you go up the ladder at the start of your next turn? Great question - haven't encountered that one. You will have to take another ladder, or wait until they move. Otherwise you end up with an infinite loop of explorers stomping on each other. Say I roll a 5 and that would put me on a snake. Is it intended that I move 4 spaces and then stop, or does "Stay where your are" mean to stay in the space you started at? It was intended that you don't move at all from the original space. Otherwise you end up with weird scenarios where you hit something else instead, which may help or hurt you. The snake basically makes you lose your turn. Is the point of the player colored X that it marks where my adventurer should always start (if they get sent down the chute, for example). If not, then what is the purpose? Yes. just go up that ladder and start there. It's also just a thematic addition. When swapping out an item for one I find on the board, does my old item go on the board in its place or is it discarded? It would seem that the item I'm getting rid of would not go on the board because my adventurer occupies the only peg hole, but the word "swap" implies that it does go on the board. If I choose not to swap, where does the item on the board go (again, because there is only one peg hole) It was originally meant to swap it out. You would put your old item back on the board next to you and take the new item. However, we played a few games last night with your discarding idea and we like that. If you land on an item you can take it and discard the old one from your backpack, or discard the one on the board and keep the one you have. It makes the item gathering more competitive. What is the point of the backpack token? I can only hold one item but do I actually need the token for any reason other than to remind me I can only have one item? Purely thematic and a reminder of your 1 item. If I land on an arrow, and the resulting dial movement causes another player to end up in front of a skull or ladder, do they activate that space? YES. All spaces are resolved immediately whether you rolled to them, rotated to them or landed on them. Makes for some exciting moments. If so, does this happen at the beginning of their next turn or immediately? immeditaly. When bumped down by the skull, if you would land on a snake you go down an extra level. Yes. What about if I am bumped down by another adventurer and would land on a snake? I assume the same thing as with a skull? Yes, bumped down 1 more. Just a comment having not played the game, but whip and compass seem weak compared to the other items. They each essentially give you two possible spaces you can land on. Most of the time, but there have been times I was able to avoid the pit with a reroll or have two different direction option. I thought about changing up the boot a bit to maybe just a plus one, like an extra spring in your step, but I haven't tried it enough. The Idol seems to be the most powerful, but once you get the gem, you may use one of the other powers to get to places as well. But the boot and jewel can each give 3 different options. I can't really ever see not picking the boot power when I have the jewel honestly. on the pit level for sure, but when you get to the top two levels, the Idol power may be better. We'll have to revisit the boot power and perhaps modify it so it isn't as strong. I agree. Thanks again for your thoughful feedback. This is a living, breathing game and will only get better when people get a change to playtest and find the best setups and sets of rules.

I altered the whip so you get a re-roll and can choose either in order to make it a little more powerful. I also make the idol scare the snake away (it gets discarded from the board). I also have a standing rule that if you have a jewel, whichever power you choose before you roll is in effect until the next turn before you roll when you decide to change it. This forces people to use the previous power if they roll then claim they wanted to change the power. It also covers when another player lands on the arrow and rotates the pathway causing the player with the jewel to have an adverse effect. They are stuck resolving the jewel with the power they last used.

Bravo! I thoroughly enjoyed printing your creation and eagerly anticipate playing it with my family. I used a multicolored filament for the temple, and it turned out quite well 👍 No printing issues, except I had to reprint the largest piece due to first-layer adhesion problems—likely user error! A wonderfully revisited game of goose—bravo on the creation!
