Description

Designed specifically for machining taller blocks where standard low-profile vices struggle.

AnchorVice V2 uses a 50mm jaw height to provide full side support for stock up to ~70mm, dramatically improving stability during cutting. The reinforced moving jaw includes a steel insert to eliminate flex under clamping pressure while maintaining a soft jaw surface to protect the workpiece.

The fixed jaw mounts directly to the CNC bed, allowing it to act as a repeatable reference edge, making this ideal for flip operations and multi-sided machining.

🧪 Proven in Use

  • Stable machining of 70mm hardwood blocks
  • Successfully milled down to 50mm depth in one operation
  • Reliable indexing using the fixed jaw
  • Flip machining achieved with near-perfect alignment

This is a function-first design, built for real CNC work—not just minimum profile.

⚙️ Key Features

  • 50mm tall jaws for full side support
  • Reinforced moving jaw with steel bar insert
  • Soft jaw surface (PLA-CF contact area)
  • Twin guide rods prevent lift, twist, and yaw
  • Bed-mounted fixed jaw for repeatable positioning
  • Designed around Carvera Air bed mounting points

📏 Dimensions & Critical Measurements

🧱 Overall

  • Jaw Height: 50mm
  • Max recommended work height: ~70mm
  • Jaw width (working face): ~94mm
  • Jaw opening capacity: depends on rod length used

🔩 Steel Reinforcement Slot (Moving Jaw)

  • Slot width: ~9.6mm (printed result)
  • Designed for: 10mm steel bar
  • Depth: 40mm
  • Length: 94mm (full width of jaw)
  • Offset from face: ~4mm inset

👉 Note: Slot may vary by printer. Adjust:

  • Either machine the steel bar to suit
  • Or adjust/scale slot in slicer

🧭 Guide Rods (Anti-Twist System)

  • Diameter: 6.5mm stainless rods
  • Position: approx 10mm from base
  • Fit: drill-through recommended after printing
  • Target: smooth sliding fit with no wobble

🔧 Clamping Bolts

  • Size: M8 (8mm) hex bolts
  • Position: approx 30mm above base
  • Function: main clamping force
  • Fixed jaw includes nut traps (no spanner required)

🧷 Bed Mounting (Fixed Jaw)

  • Uses Carvera bed threaded holes
  • Hole spacing: 45mm centres
  • Total mounting points: 6 across full jaw
  • Function: turns fixed jaw into machine reference

🧵 Print Settings (Tested)

Moving Jaw (Reinforced V2)

  • Material: PLA-CF
  • Walls: 8 perimeters
  • Infill: 60%
  • Pattern: Gyroid
  • Layer height: 0.2mm recommended
  • Orientation: flat on base

Fixed Jaw

  • Material: PLA-CF
  • Infill: 30%
  • Pattern: Gyroid
  • Walls: 4–6 perimeters

🔩 Hardware Required

  • 2 × 6.5mm stainless steel rods (cut to length)
  • 1 × 10mm steel bar (approx 94mm long × 40mm deep)
  • 2 × M8 bolts
  • 2 × M8 nuts
  • 6 × M5 bolts (for mounting to CNC bed)

🛠️ Assembly Notes

  1. Fit steel reinforcement bar into moving jaw (press fit or machined fit)
  2. Insert guide rods (drill holes if required for smooth movement)
  3. Slide moving jaw onto rods
  4. Insert M8 bolts through both jaws
  5. Nuts locate in captive slots in fixed jaw
  6. Mount fixed jaw directly to CNC bed using M5 bolts

⚠️ Important Notes

  • Steel slot prints at ~9.6mm—expect variation between printers
  • Guide rod holes may require drilling/reaming
  • Designed for rigidity and support, not ultra-low profile
  • Ideal for wood, plastics, and light CNC work

💡 Best Use Cases

  • Tall block machining
  • Deep pocketing / internal machining
  • Flip machining with alignment
  • Repeatable setups using fixed jaw as datum

🔓 Files & Sharing

This project includes both:

  • STL files (ready to print)
  • STEP files (fully editable)

Feel free to modify, improve, or adapt the design to suit your own setup or workflow.

This is a free share—do whatever you like with it.
If it helps you solve a problem or gets you machining better, then that’s exactly what it’s here for 👍

If you do make improvements or variations, I’d genuinely like to see what you come up with.

🧠 Creator Note

Built in the mancave to solve a real problem—holding tall stock securely on the Carvera Air while maintaining alignment and repeatability.

The Bamboo project plate has all 3 parts you may only want the steel one or one without, just remove the one you don’t need, same with the strength this project is 60% infill and 7 layers for added strength and rigidity
