ScentStorm: Industrial Active Scent Diffuser (Screwless Case Design)

Overview

ScentStorm is a high-performance, 3D-printable active scent diffuser designed for home or automotive use. Unlike passive diffusers, ScentStorm utilizes an integrated fan to pull air through a scented core, providing a rapid and consistent fragrance distribution throughout your space.

The exterior features a sleek, multi-color industrial aesthetic, designed to look like a premium consumer product right off your print bed.

  • Active Airflow: Built-in fan for superior scent throw compared to passive sticks.
  • Screwless Main Chassis: The top and bottom sections snap together securely without needing external hardware.
  • USB-C Powered: Modern connectivity for easy charging via wall adapters or power banks.
  • Ambient Lighting: Dedicated space for an LED PCB to provide a high-tech "glow" while in operation.

 

Bill of Materials (BOM)

To complete this build, you will need:

  • Fan: 5V 50mm Fan (40mm bolt spacing).
  • Hardware: 4 small screws to secure the fan to the top lid.
  • Charging Controller: USB-C charging board with BMS (You can upcycle an e-cigarette controller or use a standard TP4056 module).
  • Battery: Li-ion rechargeable battery.
  • Adhesive: Super glue (Cyanoacrylate) to secure the controller and battery.
  • Scent Core: Cotton ball or pad soaked in essential oils, placed inside the internal "Scent Cage."

 

Assembly & Pro-Tips

  • Component Mounting: Use a drop of super glue to fix the USB-C controller into its designated slot. Ensure it aligns perfectly with the exterior cutout before the glue sets.
  • Battery Security: It is highly recommended to secure the battery to the base using adhesive or double-sided tape to prevent rattling during use.
  • Fan Installation: Secure the fan to the top lid using 4 screws.
  • Wiring: Leave enough wire slack between the base and the lid. Since the case snaps together, the wires need room to move without tension.
  • Material Choice: * Indoor Use: PLA is perfect and offers the best color variety.
    • Car Use: ASA or ABS is mandatory. PLA will warp in a hot car (70°C+).
