Description

Rethinking the Roll: Multi-Color Custom Number Dice

Sometimes you just want to print something different. Instead of the standard recessed pips, I wanted to design a pair of clean, high-contrast, multi-color dice where the numbers take center stage.

Using a Bambu Lab printer paired with an AMS makes multi-mate

rial projects like this incredibly seamless.

The Build Details

  • The Concept: A clean, modern aesthetic featuring bold, stylized numbers (1 through 6) rather than traditional dots.
  • The Design: The numbers are embedded into the faces with a subtle texture, giving them a sharp contrast and a great tactile feel in the hand.
  • Filament Choice: Printed in crisp white and deep black PLA. The layer lines on the top surfaces create an awesome, grippy texture within the numbers themselves.

Printing Tips for the Community

If you're looking to replicate or iterate on a design like this, here are a few settings that really help clean up small, multi-color geometry:

  • Flush Options: Tune your flushing volumes between the white and black filament to ensure the black doesn't bleed into the white walls.
  • Top Surface Layer: Using a Monotonic or Hilbert Curve top surface pattern can give the faces a really unique texture.
  • Orientation: Printing these with the numbers facing up minimizes support needs, keeping the outer radiuses perfectly smooth.

It’s a quick, satisfying print that completely changes the look of a classic tabletop essential.
