Yet another modular lamp

Lately I’ve seen several modular lamp concepts appear on Makerworld. Some came close, others didn’t quite meet my aesthetic expectations — and a few were still somewhere in the crowdfunding ether.
With the northern hemisphere’s dark season setting in, I decided to create my own take on a clean, versatile lighting system.

MODULAE

A concise, modular lighting system built around three interchangeable components:
Base · Light Cone · (Transparent) Shade

Mix and match any element to define your preferred look, light direction, and overall aesthetic. The system is designed to evolve, and new components will be added over time.

Follow this design or my profile if you’d like to stay updated :)

To make the most of 3D printing, I wanted to incorporate a transparent shade combined with an organically shaped inner light cone. The cone diffuses the light evenly and adds visual depth to the lamp. Both components attach to the base using a screw-lock mechanism.

Since the light cone and the shade are printed in spiral vase mode, material usage remains very low. After printing, you can easily change the appearance of your lamp by swapping out any of the components at any time.

What's in the files

Explore up to 96 different styles by combining any of the following:

  • 4 base designs
  • 4 shade designs
  • 6 light cone designs (actually 7, if you choose to use no light cone at all)

Additionally, there is 1 light-source Attachement with every base that is used to attach the Bambulab LED Lamp Kit MH001.

More socket options are planned, including versions for E14 bulb fittings and led strips.

How & What to print

Attention:

  • This design is specifically made to be printed with a 0.4mm Nozzle.
  • For best results on the transparent shade, use transparent PETG or PC and reduce the print speed.

When you open the file in Bambu Studio or Bambu Handy, you’ll find lots of build plates containing all the models.

Simply select the build plate containing the design you want to print, everything is pre-set and personally tested.

Please do not move parts between build plates, as each plate contains pre-configured settings for optimal printing.

  • If you’re using Bambu Studio, you can preview your chosen design by deleting all unnecessary parts and clicking the small jigsaw puzzle icon in the top-right corner when preparing the build plate.

Attention: Do not delete the small threaded ring on the base build plate — you’ll need it to attach the LED Lamp Kit.

Using another slicer?

  1. Print the base with your preferred settings. Avoid using fuzzy skin on the walls of the twist-lock mechanism.
  2. Print the shade and light cone in vase mode with only two solid bottom layers. Do not change the file orientation.
    1. Print the shade slowly, as transparent PETG loses clarity at high speeds. It still looks great, but slower prints will give the best results.

How to assemble

1. Mount the LED Lamp Kit to the small threaded ring printed next to the base. Use either double-sided tape or the included screws.

2. Screw the assembly into the base. Do not overtighten, as it may become difficult to remove later.

3. Place the light cone on the base and twist-lock it in place. Repeat the same process for the shade.

Enjoy your new lamp :)
