Description

Welcome to my second printable kit! Destroyer Shimakaze!

This model is based on the Shimakaze model in the game World of Warships. Like my previous work, this is a complete remodel, now with additional features and model improvement while maintaining printability at stock 0.4mm nozzle.

Some of the changes and improvements over Fuso model:

  • Improved practicality (print process) by separating the parts. Now instead of using sprue for the entire model as a single print, the individual parts now have small pull tabs/mouse ears that works the same way.

This saves material, enables per-object printing, and now fits all printers.

However for smaller parts (turrets, torpedo launcher, masts), I still use a sprue so they have better stability.
If the pulltabs causes printing issues I've uploaded the models without them, check in ‘Download STL/CAD files'

  • Separate deck parts. Now they can be printed in different colored filament.
  • Added an interface between upper & lower hull in the form of holes for 5x1.5mm magnets so they can be aligned properly this time. (Dowels available in the model as well)

  • Some new assembly technique that you may/may not like (but will make the model that much better)

Size comparison to Fuso kit.

Features:

  • Zero support (one part has support but were part of the model)
  • 40g of materials for the entire print.
  • Turret that can elevate and rotate.
  • Torpedo launcher with cavity for the torpedoes.
  • Notches for ease of assembly.
  • Separate bottom hull & standee (with holes for dowels/magnets)

Disclaimer

This print will push the absolute limit of the printer in its stock form, so make sure everything is set up correctly and tuned to get the perfect print (Clean bed, filament tuning, flow calibration, etc)

Print Settings (I made some changes so please double check):

  • Layer height: 0.1 mm
  • Initial layer height: 0.20 mm
  • Initial layer: 0.42 mm
  • Wall generator: Arachne
  • Minimum wall width: 50%
  • Minimum feature size: 20%
  • Top surface pattern: Monotonic Line
  • Sparse infil density: 15%
  • Sparse infil pattern: Adaptive Cubic
  • Initial layer speed: 15mm/s
  • Outer wall: 30mm/s
  • Inner wall: 50mm/s

Printed models:

Assembly Instructions is now more detailed & much better looking.

Make sure the first layer is perfect. If there are bed adhesion issue, either enable Brim, or use a glue stick.

Filaments used:

  1. Polymaker Panchroma Steel Grey (ship)
  2. Polymaker Panchroma Wood Brown (standee)
  3. Bambu Matte PLA - Red (lower hull)
  4. Sunlu Marble PLA - Brick Red (deck)
  5. Sunlu PLA 2.0 Gold (propellers)

To get 1/700 scale, scale down the parts to 89.25%

I love this so much. That being said, the pull tabs just create problems without really adding anything. Also I'm lucky enough to have a 0.2mm nozzle for my A1 Mini so I did a lot of the finer parts with that which helped a lot with detail. All in all though a great model and I'm looking forward to the next (Cossack pls).

Noted about the pull tabs, I added them to aid pulling the parts off my BiQu's Cryogrip build plate because they stick so well, small parts just flexes with it lol On the next one I'll have them removed entirely, but I'm keeping the sprues for smaller parts.

Having big problems printing because of the pull tabs, they lift mid print. Any chance for a version without them?

This brings back beautiful memory. I'm an old player from EU WoWs who whale the OP ship (paid or steel) from Yuro channel.
