Description
Pixiu (pí xiū) is a ferocious auspicious beast recorded in ancient Chinese books and folklore, ranked among the five auspicious beasts alongside the dragon, phoenix, tortoise, and qilin.
Legend says Pixiu is the ninth son of the dragon, each of the nine sons having unique characteristics. Pixiu has a unique appearance: a dragon's head, a qilin's horn, a horse's body, and a lion's claws. Therefore, it is also called "the four unlikelies." It is born to consume gold and silver without expelling any, taking in but never releasing. Furthermore, it is ferocious and devours evil spirits, which is why some call it "辟邪" (bìxié, literally "warding off evil").
In celebration of the New Year, this auspicious beast will bless everyone with good fortune, peace, and wealth.
Because Pixiu placement taboos include its four legs not touching the ground, a base has been added.
The horns are rather delicate, please handle them with care when removing supports.
