Description

This is a version of my sci-fi case, sized to work with the [BaBo] system (8x6 units → Willi 3D's BaBo Collection). I liked the insets! The prototype versions of this case I've already been using to hold printer tools, and so it just seem natural. They work and look great together.

It's a tight fit on build plate! I recommend printing the case portion with some sort of support to help the curves print nicer. It uses 16 M3x10 screws, 4 4x6 round bar magnets, and a piece of filament for the hinge! Pictures of my model feature Bambu PLA Basic green, PLA Matte charocal, and Polyterra's Muted white!

Here's a link where you can purchase the magnets on the US Amazon store.

Hello Josh, Very nice model! I have a couple of questions for you: I printed the version with the black "straps" and the brim/support infused a black, horizontal line between the straps. I accepted my fate and tried to touch it up with a Sharpie (rookie move, I know). I'm a noob so if you can suggest any adjustments needed, I'm all ears. I'm planning on printing this a couple more times at least. Also, Do you have any tips/suggestions on inserting the magnets? It's a very tight fit and I am worried about brute-forcing them as the Bambu PLA Basic might split.

Hey. Sorry for the late response here! Ah! I'm not sure off hand what to say about the infusion. Just that I'd make sure you're using the PLA support material??? (https://us.store.bambulab.com/products/support-for-pla?variant=40524454723720 this stuff?). If you are, are you using the black version? In using the white pla support material, I do find sometimes that it'll bleed some of that white color into the print, which can be a little annoying. So, those are the first two things. Make sure you're using the PLA support material, and make sure you're using the white version so you don't get bleed. If both of those things are true, and it's sticking like that! Hmmmm. It might help changing the top interface layer from 2 to 3. For the magnets, you should be fine! It's a tight fit for sure, but I've pressed them into PLA Basic and PLA Matte. It shouldn't be enough to crack the PLA Basic. Usually I'll put a magnet on the side of my pliers or something and press it in on one side, then put a magnet on top of the one I just put in and press it in to the other side by just closing the lid. Sorry I can't illustrate that with photos at the moment. I am fresh out of magnets! Hopefully you get the idea though and that it helps. If it does crack though, come yell at me, because it shouldn't!

Thanks for the feedback Josh. I'll try your suggestions about the support on the next print. Regarding, the magnets: you were correct in that all that was needed was to get after it. They pressed in just fine. Scott

You have to find and print those separately. https://makerworld.com/en/@Willi3D/collections/666866

There are a few artefacts in the model. Any idea what those are?

Yeah. It is because I used the tools within Bambu to color the straps, on that version. On that last image, with the specs on the first layer, I'm not sure about that, as I don't see that happening on my side. The first two though, it's the color break, and just the way that Bambu Studio decided to deal with it internally.

Unfortunately, there were also slight distortions after the second printout. Why is the strange magnet size (3x6mm is hard to get!)? To save material and time, the model could have been built a little lighter. Overall a nice piece. Thanks!

Great box printed really good, I should have used PLA support material on the top and bottoms though. Still turned out good, just could have been better.
