IKEA Skadis Lock Plug
Print Profile(5)

Description
Secure your accessories on the IKEA Skadis board effectively with this tailored plug set. These plugs prevent unintentional detachment and sliding by fitting into a top hole partially obscured by the accessory. Available in sizes ranging from 2mm to 15mm, they accommodate a wide range of accessories.
I provide two options: with or without a handle. The version including a handle simplifies installation and removal but demands additional clearance, which may not be compatible with certain accessories. Moreover, this variant is more challenging to print and less discreet once installed. For these reasons, I personally favor the flat variant.
Current limitations:
- The accessory must partially cover a hole on the top edge.
- The obscured hole's height should be between 2mm and 15mm.
Future updates will address these limitations. Please be aware that the regular version needs 5mm of clearance towards the front for the handle, use the flat variant (separate print profile) if you don't have that clearance.
Usage Instructions
- Installation
- Measure the exposed height of the hole covered by the accessory, or print a variety of sizes for trial and error.
- Choose the correct plug size based on your measurement. If in doubt, select the larger size for a more secure lock.
- With the accessory in place, insert the plug into the hole by pushing, ensuring the embossed size number faces front. Ensure contact between the plug and accessory for optimal stability.
- Detachment
- For smaller plugs, use pliers or fingernails for removal.
- Squeeze the sides of taller plugs and pull (only for the regular variant with handle). Use pliers if necessary for a better grip.
- Note: These parts are delicate, expect some losses during removal.
Background
I had some accessories with poor grip which detached or wiggled when pulling something out of the part (bottle trays, hooks, battery holders, etc). This issue may arise from several factors: poor design, variations in the finish of Skadis boards (notably, the black boards seem slightly thinner), or manufacturing tolerances. Modifying the original models can be time-consuming and may not always be possible, leading to the creation of this simple, universal (within current constraints), and easily printable solution.
Printing Instructions
- Brims are added for improved adhesion due to the delicacy of the plugs.
- Carefully remove the brim to avoid damaging the plug.
- While PETG is recommended for its properties, PLA has been tested and found satisfactory.
- Handle gently to maintain integrity.
