Description

1. Model Overview

Have you heard of Rubber Duck Debugging?

Good news! You can upgrade your rubber duck to a more powerful dinosaur now! A dino a day keeps the bug away!

This model is designed based on Google Chrome Dinosaur Game, you can see the lonely T Rex when your chrome being offline. The game can also be accessed by inputting chrome://dino or chrome://network-error/-106 on a Chromium based browser.

As the Chrome dino runs, we caught up with the Googlers who built it

2. Model Specifications

  • Dimensions:
    • Dino: 77mm (H) x 70mm (W) x 21mm (D)
    • Standing Plate: 7mm (H) x 73.5mm (W) x 35mm (D)
  • Weight:
    • Dino: 22g
    • Plate: 7g
  • Material & Color Recommendations:
    • Dino body and standing plate feet attachment: White
    • Dino eyes and standing plate: Black
    • Or vice versa

3. Printing Parameters

  • Layer Height: 0.08mm is recommended to ensure a smooth finish
  • Infill Percentage: 15% for optimal balance of strength and material usage.
  • Support/Adhesion: No support
  • Plate: Smooth PEI Plate or Textured Plate all works great

4. Assembly Instructions

The model is designed in two pieces to avoid the need for supporting structures. This allows you to achieve a flawless printing surface with your finest printing profile.

A snap-fit structure is designed to help the two parts join together easily and precisely. Glue is not necessary for the assembly, but there is space for glue if you want to ensure a permanent joint.

If you printed with an older profile, the hooks might be thinner and easy to break. Please be gentle when assembling the two pieces. This issue has been fixed with the 2024/01/02 updated profile.

Have fun printing your own little dino🦖! Don't forget to share a picture of your dino in the comment!

Additional notes:

If you don't have AMS for multicolor printing, you can remove the eye components from the printing profile. The model will still print fine, and you can then use a pen or marker to draw the eyes afterward.

6. Version History and Updates

  • 2024/05/12 Update
    • Update document
    • Add demo section for finished prints
  • 2024/02/11 Update:
    • Add chamfer in the body internal part to make the assembly easier and avoid breaking the snap structure.
  • 2024/01/02 Update
    • Combine two components into one profile, hide old print profile
    • Make hooks and grooves in the snap-fit structure thicker and stronger to avoid breaking issue mentioned in the comments
      • I was using PLA Tough for the body structure print, so I didn't encountered this breaking issue in the past. One day I tried PLA Basic for the body and I noticed this issue might be very common as some comments mentioned (So I found out PLA Tough is a little bit different from PLA Basic indeed LOL). Thanks so much for sharing your printing experience!
    • Add chamfer for the hook structure to support the new change
    • Update raw model file and print profile with new design
  • 2023/12/12 Update
    • Add model and print profile of a base for the T-Rex to help it stand on the desk more stably.

I broke up the attachment and just glue it, but its really nice model. I love it! Printed on bambulab A1 with AMS lite, default settings. Low wasted material, fast print.

Hi @sheikoner , I've updated the design, adding thickness and chamfers for the snap structure. The new design should help prevent the attachment from breaking. If you're printing more, please try the new print profile and let me know if you still encounter this issue.

Yep, he's wobbly. Check out the designer's original profile, he made a base to help keep him upright.

Really cute! Instead of the eyes being a different color I modified it to just have a hole, it printed really well. On my print there were some rough spots that was mostly becomes I printed it in ludicrous and my filament was humid.
