I primarily print in ABS but wanted a way to quickly attach and detach exhaust ducting depending on my printing medium. To solve this problem I created these magnetic couplings.
They attach securely and detach quickly.
Print settings:
Filament: PLA, ABS, PETG
layer height: 0.2mm
Infill: 10-20%
Supports: I did not use any
BOM:
12mmx2mm magnets
4-inch duct work
inline fan
Gorilla tape
Instructions:
Insert the magnets in one of the couplings - friction fitted. You may need pliers to help. The goal is then to take 8 additional magnets for the other coupling and insert them in a Positive (+) to Negative (-) pole orientation so that couplings stick together.
Once you've made the rings attach to each other, make an alignment mark on each ring(black line in photo) so that its easy to quickly orient and attach the couplings when necessary.
Finally, I used double-sided clear Gorilla tape to adhere the flat coupling to the printer exhaust fan port, sticking the tape to the side of ring where you can see the magnets.
I've used this system for over 1 year now with no issues.
