Description
I have a little present for you for Christmas and a small challenge for you over the holidays.
As you can see in the picture, it is a ball as a Christmas tree decoration. You can hang them up. But you can also use them as decoration for display.
Printing a sphere using FDM 3D printing can be challenging. Because a sphere presents all levels of difficulty regarding overhangs. It is therefore almost impossible to print a sphere flawlessly using the FDM/FFF process.
I've included the two necessary STL files (sphere and hanger). The hanger is printed separately and then attached to the sphere with a drop of glue. This eliminates the need for filament changes during printing.
Please determine the optimal print settings for this model based on your specific printer and filament. I printed mine on an X1C using standard speeds and a layer height of 0.08 or 0.1mm. The ZIP file includes images of my print settings.
To minimize weight, I printed the sphere with minimal wall thickness and no infill. The sphere printed in this way is not as heavy as with printed infill. If you don't intend to hang the sphere, weight is not a concern. In this case, you might achieve better results with a higher infill density.
