Description

This is an alternative model for a frame for lithophanes. It is designed to fit the bambu labs backlit LED board found in their store (see the CMYK bundle or you can purchase directly in the filaments section). I am not sponsored by anyone I just wanted to create my own frame with a sturdier base. I created the model from scratch. It is several parts that snap together. Feel free to modify as you like.

Printing instructions

  1. Print all components beginning with 01,02,03,04,05
    1. You can use .4mm nozzle and standard .2mm layer heights
    2. I used basic PLA and the .20mm standard profile for parts 01/02/05
    3. For the diffuser plate use the same settings recommended by bambu labs:
      1. Filament type:PLA Basic - Jade White
      2. Nozzle size: 0.4mm / 0.6mm
      3. Wall loops: 5
      4. Top shell layers: 5
      5. Bottom shell layers: 5
  2. None of the parts require supports (you may desire to print 05_frame_cover with the face up for a nicer finish which would require supports)
  3. Colors:
    1. Print the parts 01_frame_back/04_frame_stand/05_frame_cover in any color you like for a colorful frame!
    2. Print 02_frame_insert black. Its not visible once the frame is assembled and black keeps the light from bleeding through the rest of the frame.
    3. Print 03_frame_diffuser white - the bambu instructions recommend PLA Basic - Jade White but I think just plain white is fine. Note that my diffuser plate is not the same as the bambu laps model and I add an extra border to hold it in place.
  4. The parts are designed with tolerances - they should be snug but not too tight
  5. Follow the bambu labs instructions to print a lithophane here but when importing the different objects in step #2 please also import my lithophane_border_white. It adds a few mm border around the image. This gives my frame a consistent way to hold the lithophane in place.
  6. Enjoy and provide feedback!

I recommend version 2 here instead. It has a slim and thick version and a number of other improvements: https://makerworld.com/en/models/141687#profileId-154308
