Description
I wanted something a little different for my Christmas tree, so I designed this led-lit crystal ornament inspired by Dragon Age and its lyrium crystals! It's using Maker's Supply's magnetic switch leds — they're the perfect size and brightness to make these crystals look amazing!
I've currently included three different crystal designs that I'm happy with and I might add some more a bit later. This is not just an ornament for the Christmas tree, it works as a beautiful decoration for a desktop or shelf as well, since the activator base is attached magnetically and easily comes off so you can set the crystal down on its own!
The crystals print in vase mode so they print quickly and cleanly! If you want to use a filament that is very translucent, I recommend also printing a diffuser in white that you can push inside the crystal. It will make the glow more even and mask the fact that the light is coming from leds in the base.
Try out different filaments for the crystals, most of them will look amazing and surprising!
The print profile also includes a simple hanger you can print if you don't have a nice string. Or if you have a P1 or X1 series printer, you can use the calibration line print as a string for the ornament like I did! 😄
Assembly
Instead of the Y Shape LED Light with Magnetic Control from Maker's Supply, you can also use the Single LED Magnetic Control Switch Light, but you need to print and use the Single LED adapter included in the print profile!
