This is a Reduction Ring for the Backscatter HF-1 underwater strobe. The purpose of a reduction ring to limit the width of the strobe light cone when shooting small macro subjects. This helps to control and limit the illumination of the background of the composition.

 

This a Three-Part design:

  1. The TPU rubber “bumper ring” is put over the front rim of the strobe. The six flanges should slot into the first row of heat spreader rings on the side of the strobe. You can leave this in place all the time, even when not using the reduction ring itself. It may help to protect your strobe from bumps and scratches.
  2. The Reduction Ring is a hard plastic (PETG recommended) with a 60mm aperture that slips snuggly over the rubber bumper ring. Push it all the way down until it contacts the ridge around the base of the rubber bumper ring. Do not recommend PLA as that material won't be durable submerged in the water over long periods of time. 
  3. An additional reduction ring in the form of a 38mm cone optionally screws directly on to the 60mm ring.
