Description

This is a smaller version of my other model

https://makerworld.com/en/models/858369#profileId-808092

There is a second print profile that prints without pins and makes the adapter universal and can be glued to any spool.

The third profile lets you print a template jig for third party spools. The instructions for it are at the bottom of this description.

Robert West has designed a gridfinity bin for these adapters and has generously allowed to post his model here:

When using third-party filaments with the Bambu AMS , users must manually input the filament type and color information. While this is manageable for occasional swaps, it becomes a tedious process for those who frequently change multiple spools. My solution to this problem is an innovative adapter that streamlines this workflow.

Here’s how it works: when you purchase a spool from any third-party filament brand, you can remove the filament from its original cardboard spool and transfer it onto a Bambu reusable spool. Once that's done, you attach an RFID chip salvaged from a previous Bambu filament spool of the same type (e.g., PLA, ABS, etc.) and colour. This chip carries the pre-programmed filament data, so when you place the adapted spool into the AMS, it automatically detects and treats it as a Bambu filament spool.

This approach has several advantages:

  1. Time Efficiency: Eliminates repetitive manual input, significantly saving time for users who frequently swap spools.
  2. Compatibility: Ensures third-party filaments integrate seamlessly with the AMS without sacrificing its intelligent features.
  3. Sustainability: Encourages reuse of existing spools and RFID tags, reducing waste and supporting eco-friendly practices.
  4. Convenience: Makes it effortless to work with a wide range of filament brands without additional hassle.

From my experience most other brand filaments work fine with Bambu lab profiles, so by using these on third party filaments the extra step of entering colour and type of filament is not needed.

In case the bambu profile doesnt work with your filament you always have the option of changing calibration profile.

Please print two for both sides because the scanners in ams are only on one side for each slot . If you want to use only one adapter you can follow the image below to know where the scanners are so that you can put the adapter on corresponding side of spool.

The orientation in the print profile is must for strength of the pins, please don't change it.

Please find the assembly and disassembly instructions below:

Installation Instructions:

  1. Turn Update remaining capacity option off in the ams setting So that ams doesn't register Rfid tag as empty spool making it useless.

    2. Cut the RFID from bambu spool at the point represented by dashed line in picture below.

    3. Insert the tag in the slot as shown below.

    4. Line up the pins with holes of spool and make sure the adapter is in line with bambu logo.

    5. Press the pins firmly and you will hear a snap.

    Disassembly Instructions:

You will need a scraper to safely detach pins from spool.

    1. Insert the scraper in the gap as shown below.

  2. Lift each corner delicately using the same method.

    INSTRUCTIONS FOR DRILL  TEMPLATE

    1. PLACE THE TEMPLATE ON SPOOL AS SHOWN BELOW

    2. MARK THE HOLES USING A PEN/MARKER.

    3. USING A 3/16 IN OR 4.7 MM DRILL BIT MAKES HOLE. MAKE SURE YOU DONT PUT MUCH PRESSURE INTO IT SO THAT THE BIT DOESNT GO ALL THE WAY THROUGH THE CARDBOARD AND HIT FILAMENT INSIDE. STOP BEFORE REACHING END.

    4. CLEAN UP THE SPOOL.

    5. SNAP THE ADAPTER IN PLACE.

Nice and minimalist. I also use them as a colour swatch for the filaments that I have available. I made a Gridfinity container to hold them all, got a few more to make yet :-)

I designed the storage container in Fusion, but I can put it up on MakerWorld if you're interested?

very good print. you should just include one of each with the text, PLA, PETG, ABS, ASA etc ..

Hey I posted the template profile too. Please check it out. The trick is to keep very little pressure on drill and not let the bit go all the way through.
