Description

I present the Articulated Hippo which is modelled after the Hippopotamus. A model with 10 flexible joints that prints in place without support. The model has been designed to be flexible but also posable. The main neck joint has a new spring based mechanism to keep it posable. Let me know if you like this solution!

If you like this model please give it a like and consider giving it a boost to support my future work!

The complex structure of the first layer requires good bed adhesion, so please clean your print bed before printing or consider using an adhesive.

The print file has coloured nostrils and eyes but I believe the model looks great in single colour as well. Eyes and nostrils can easily be painted with a bit of white and black acrylics.

I believe the model can be scaled down just a little bit, but please have a close look when slicing to make sure no joints are fusing.

Overall, this is an easy print resulting in a great toy.

Please also have a look at my "Articulated Rhino” which is a quick and easy print which matches the colour profile of the Hippo!

Absolutely superb. I used eSUN Marble PLA+ filament and in my opinion, it looks absolutely fantastic. Recommendation and boost going out.

it looks awesome and it’s very easy to print. I placed three of them in a plate.

Thank you! Nice to finally see a photo of a successful print after my initial mistake. Is it original size or a bit smaller? Not sure how well it scales down.

its original size. Maybe the next time config with less infill to save a little material, but it’s fine 👌

Not impressed, spent all that time and the back legs fell off soon as I took it off the printer.

no probs I'll print it again, I've glued the back legs on and apart from that it's really good, I was just a bit peeved, I'll alter my rating.

It's 100% complete, the head should be articulated but I couldn't detach it

If the neck is stuck I think you quite safely can try to use some force.

The hippo looks good over all. It used a lot of filament. I did enlarge the model to 160%. the surface finish is a little low res. There were some filament threading between the back legs. This area could have support added. The joints are a little too loose and the belly feels like it could be easily crushed. Still a cute toy though.

woow 160%. The model was not developed to be printed at this size and the threading and loose joints would then make sense. Although, the legs were designed to be loose :) Thanks for the photos and comment!
