I have a decent inventory of filament and when a filament is in the AMS, I still keep the box around for when I'm swapping filaments. Because I put partial spools back on the shelf, I want to be sure I know which ones are already open to use them next.
This easy solution helps me check inventory quickly, so I don't have to pull anything off the shelf to check what's in the box.
