INITIAL RELEASE (3/16/2023): This is a housing designed for displaying my color lithophanes. The size was based on the specific lithophanes I've been printing from lithophanemaker.com. I've added a vertical and horizontal style. The vertical housing was the original, and designed for a single tea light, whereas the horizontal type was designed to use (2) tea lights. I used some cheap Amazon LED tea lights, any brand will do. They're all roughly the same size, and slightly larger lights would also fit.

Instructions:

These were designed to fit lithophanes of a particular size. When generating your lithophane, ensure the dimensions are either 100mm x 71.45mm or 71.45mm x 100mm. The maximum thickness should be around 3mm to fit into the grooves properly.

Simply go to the lithophane generator and upload your image. I used the color lithophane generator, but you can do this with the basic flat lithophanes as well. Crop, adjust or edit your litho as desired and print. Once you have the lithophane and you've printed the housing, drop in one or two LED tealights and voila!

Specs:

  • The housings are 100mm x 71.45mm and 71.45mm x 100mm; one for vertical images, one for horizontal images.
  • The housings fit (1) tea light in the vertical orientation, or (2) tea lights in the horizontal orientation.
  • The horizontal orientation housing is angled back about 25 degrees since most of the displays I print are sitting on tables below eye level. I haven't gotten around to updating the vertical housing yet.
  • The lithophanes simply slide into the face of the housing; nothing complicated about it.

Print Settings:

  • 0.4mm Nozzle, Textured PEI
  • Default 0.2mm layer height profile
