Description

Toothbrush Holder

This design is my attempt at solving the issue of water collecting in the toothbrush and toothpaste holder which would never dry, resulting in somewhat unsanitary conditions for the bottom of the toothpaste/brush. Not really a big deal but something I felt like remedying anyways.

The model is comprised of two main sections: a bottom base and an upper section. The bottom base houses an elliptical cutout with slot vents to allow water to drain into and eventually evaporate. The upper section contains inserts with a honeycomb pattern to allow water to drain into the lower elliptical cutout and allow the bottom of the toothbrush and paste to remain relatively dry and away from standing water.

Both the base and upper section have holes for 5x3 magnets. I made the clearance 0.2mm, it is a tight fit but I prefer to hammer the magnets in rather than relying on CA glue. Magnets are optional, there is more than enough height on the guide extrusion to keep the bottom base and upper section mated. The bottom of the base has cutouts for TPU gaskets. The use of these gaskets are optional but I do find they provide a grippy surface to reduce slip when the counter is wet.

Print Notes

I printed the models at 0.16mm layer height as I favored a better surface finish over print speed. The model printed fine @ 0.2mm layer height when testing but I prefer the finish from the lower layer height. It prints fine without supports as the unsupported bridges are not visible. The overhang on the vented slot, may have the last bridged line towards the inside of the model fail when printing at higher layer heights or higher speeds. In my testing it was usually just one line, I just removed it as it was mostly cosmetic. The profiles are all setup to print “by object” to reduce plate count and to also reduce stringing for the TPU gaskets.
