If you distribute opened filaments across several SAMLA boxes, you know the game: Filament searched – wrong box opened – next box – next box… 😅 - this filament swatch holder is designed for that

The holder is attached to the outside of the box and shows you directly which filaments are stored in the box. The swatches can be inserted from the side and removed again – practical if a spool changes boxes or is used up. I mainly use the customizable swatches from GlennovitS 3D (standard format) for this, because they can be easily customized in the Customizer. However, the system also works with other swatches, as long as the dimensions fit

Another Advantage:

The holder was designed so that it can be mounted on the short side of the SAMLA box (ideal for KALLAX compartments), but it also works just as well on the long side.
 

There are two versions:

• with countersunk drill holes (screw mounting)
• without holes (for gluing, e.g. double-sided adhesive tape / superglue)

Pro-Tip: Holder color = material type. This way you immediately recognize what's in the box – and which material can go on the printer next 😁

Assembly (Screw Version)

Important: The SAMLA walls are thin. Please work carefully when drilling

1. Place the holder in the desired position and align it
2. Mark drill points
3. Check again with the holder before drilling (smooth surfaces can easily slip)
4. Drill with a 4 mm drill bit and very little pressure
5. Mount the holder with screws + nuts
6. Insert swatches from the side – done ✅

Tip:
If you use the version without holes, you can glue the holder directly (e.g. with strong double-sided adhesive tape or superglue).
 

BOM / Hardware (for Screw Version)

• 4x M4x14 countersunk screws
  (M4x12 might just barely work, but M4x14 fits more comfortably)
• 4x M4 nuts
   

Print Note

The model is designed for vertical printing on the long side.
For the version with holes, you can print the hole areas without supports depending on your setup - for me, support and brim were not necessary

• 15% infill
• Optional: Activate brim for poor bed adhesion
• Optional: Tree support / Auto, build plate only (for the drilled version)
