Description

My print in place experiments culminate in this cool treasure chest that has functioning lock (and a separate key that opens it).

After printing, carefully bend the lid and loosen the hinges, breaking any possible z-seam blobs inside. Then check the bottom of the chest and the lock latch; run a fingernail or some other thin part along the latch edges and slightly push apart to loosen any fused z-seams. You can use for example a flat screwdriver and push the latch from the opposite end of the larger gap to loosen it finally. It's better to make sure the latch is free before twisting the key in the lock and possibly breaking it inside.

Amazing design! enlarged up to 150%, printed with a layer height of 0.2, without supports (although due to the layer height some layers were not fixed perfectly) I also modified it to put a name at the top

Yarr! Here be a perfect chest for me booty! Scaled up 170%. I printed without support and I got some failed overhangs which I trimmed out and it gave a weathered look which I didn’t mind. I put a screw driver at the locking mechanism as pictured and gave it a few taps with a hammer and it broke it loose and works fantastic. My son absolutely loves it. I just used paint markers I got from AliExpress for the trim (be careful when painting because paint can get drawn and bleed into the layer lines)

Very cool treasure chest love the design!!! I printed it bigger and it worked out nicely! I printed it out to for my daughters teacher to put the coins I designed for her to give the kids when they are good, but loved it so much I’m keeping it for myself! I’m going to print out more for sure and my daughter wants me to make her one too! Thanks for sharing!

My adult lite child had wisdom teeth removed and requested a treasure chest like they used to get in school. How could I not oblige that request? Printed well, it took a little bit of force to release the mechanism, but awesome print! Not very secure 😉

Very neat model. The overhang on the lid was a bit stringy, but otherwise printed great. Love the wood panel and rivet detailing.
