Description

This model widens one side of the spool ring adapter to stabilize a JAMG HE 1kg 199.5x62mm cardboard spool while it rotates within a Bambu Lab AMS.

Features:

  • Reusable
  • JAMG HE nameplate for easy identification when reusing

Instructions:

  • Print one of each model for a single spool.
  • Affix the wide spool ring adapter on the right-hand side of the JAMG HE spool if you're facing the AMS.
  • See attached photos.

Considerations:

  • Print Material: Please print with a basic PLA or PETG to minimize any shrinkage.
  • Too Tight? Too Loose? Cardboard expands with humidity and contracts when dried. A cardboard spool that has absorbed too much moisture may cause the adapters to fit very tight. Placing the spool in a filament dryer, such as the SUNLU S2, for a bit should resolve this. Note, you should not dry the spool with the adapters attached as they can warp in the heat. Keep in mind that after a long drying session the adapters may fit too loose. This should resolve itself shortly as the cardboard reabsorbs some moisture from the air.
  • AMS Lid Doesn't Close? All of the spool adapters I make are less than the official AMS spool clearance limit of 202mm, as specified on the official AMS product page, and as tested within my own AMS. However, some people have stated their spools are rubbing against the lid with the adapters attached. It's hard to say what's causing this since I cannot reproduce the issue myself, however, I've created an AMS Lid Riser which allows you to keep your AMS lid closed while providing additional clearance for larger filament spools. It's a quick and easy print which you can find on my profile or directly here: https://makerworld.com/en/models/33133

Passt! Geht zwar echt straff über die Rolle, aber passt trotzdem gut.

I tried printing with PLA and PETG, but each time spool didn't spin in AMS. I used the first slot from the left and the spool was freshly open. Maybe this has to do something with my AMS being newer (3-4 months) or the cardboard spool wasn't dry enough. I'll retry in the future with a dried spool. I tried different designs with unsatisfying results too so I'll try removing the cardboard sides altogether and sticking it into a plastic spool. Nevertheless appreciate your effort. Thanks!

Thank you for the feedback. I have a few troubleshooting ideas that may help. First, before feeding in the filament, try with your hand to rotate the spool back and forth and adjust the position to see if you can correct the issue. Also, the Jamg He spool which I based this model on was narrow hence the addition of the right-hand wider adapter but sometimes spools can be wider which negates the need for it. If too wide in the AMS the spool rotation can be obstructed. In this case I would use the left-hand side adapter on both sides. Next, try with the AMS lid open to see if the issue still occurs. While the diameter of the adapter is less than the AMS lid clearance limit sometimes it can rub the lid which obstructs rotation. I have an AMS Lid Riser model linked in the model description that will solve this. Lastly, the adapter is designed with a lip around the rim that is meant to wrap the inner edge of the spool. Make sure that the adapter is fully attached with the rim on the inner edge. I hope this helps!
