Description

***UPDATE*** Since I published this model I have gotten many good reviews and kind words about the model, but also some negative feedback too, they are all precious, because you can do your model even better. After all gathered feedback I realized that the hinge itself was too sensitive to filament stiffness. To eliminate the chance that the hinge will break on first fold only cause your filament differs from the one I tested on I adjusted the hinge and tested on different (Bambu) filaments like: Basic, Matte, Sparkle and Silk

The glasses case is printed in PLA filament, and the inserts are from TPU. The case does not require post-processing, so the only thing you have to do is fold it along the hinge (after the model cools down) and insert four magnets 8x3mm; make sure you follow the polarity of the magnets (*please note that the insertion of the magnet require some force, it's made by purpose to hold the magnet in place)

The most important thing for the inserts is to dry out your TPU filament before printing.

Please check the result below:

Great design. Prints easily, and functions great. snaps closed solid with the magnets. I had to copy with the eye popping translucent green. 👍🔥

I just finished printing in PLA and after a nice clean print, I suffered the broken hinge as well. It's a bummer because I'm sure this would be a great case if the hinge wasn't fused together. - P1S w/ the standard 0.4mm nozzle - Bambu PLA Basic - Magenta - Printed at 0.20 Standard layer height - No additional changes made to the configuration

Sorry to hear that! Could you please tell me when you downloaded the file? I made some changes on Saturday march 4th to eliminate problems with the hinge and re-uploaded the files. I'll add the picture of the case I printed right after the changes (PLA Basic Green). From the pictures you added I can see the filament overflow so far, do you have any Bambu sparkle PLA?

I would have downloaded the file sometime this week, so definitely after March 4th. And no, I don't have any sparkle PLA yet, but I can pick some up on my next haul.

Have you had any problems with the hinges like (hard to fold or too tight when opening)?

I love the case and the idea of using the insert. I had to print the larger one. But I found with both the small and large models, the inner depth is different between each side of the case by 2mm. EG on the large one, it's 21mm and 23mm deep. With the TPU inserts being the same size, it wouldn't close. I just ended up slicing 2mm off the top of one of the inserts. I'm using eSun TPU95A so on the harder side - perhaps it is supposed to squish more?

It was my mistake, while uploading the modified version, I didn't notice that the bottom of one of the sides is 2mm higher, I do apologize for the inconvenience. If you decide to reprint the case, please keep me posted. Thank you for your kind words and your feedback, I really appreciate that!

All good thank you - I’ll just keep the one I have as it’s perfect. But glad it’s sorted for the next person :-)

This was a good print and everything worked. I tried several size frames and sunglasses and fit fine. I’m in the eyewear business. I’m wondering if you’d be able to remix one without the magnets. They close fine and no need to purchase magnets. thx!

Case printed great. 1st print I had issues with the hinge breaking, probably just went to fast in trying to loosen it. Printed a 2nd in PTEG and it worked great. Then printed a 3rd to use for my son's inhaler. Resized it a bit, which messed up the recessed portions for the magnets. New to 3D printing and currently only modify in the Bambu slicer but will start to venture soon into actual modeling software. Thanks for the great model!

printed out well, I used a heat gun to allow the magnets to fit. TPU inserts were useful.

Amazing. Gorgeous. I made it for my wife's glasses and inserted her initials. Overjoyed. Great pattern and no need to touch it up or do post production. Also great with TPU interior, I used Overture TPU and it came out very well. Thank you!
