Description

Update 1/18/2025 - Added two additional adapter sizes: 76mm and 80.4mm to support additional filament brands

I have tested this on multiple types of elegoo rolls and 3DHojor and eSun. Use at your own risk. If you are not careful with removing the cardboard flanges the filament can become unwound and not fit properly.

⚠️ For the best success, please measure the Inner Diameter of an empty spool first and then select the adapter with the closest measurement (82mm, 80.4mm, 76mm) ⚠️

Bambulab filament is fantastic, but sometimes you just can't beat the convenience of getting affordable filament delivered from Amazon in 1-2 days. This has left me with a collection of empty reusable Sunlu spools and plenty of filament on cardboard spools.

This adapter solves both problems. It allows you to repurpose your leftover Sunlu spools by adapting them to fit the core of cardboard filament spools. By bridging the gap between the two, it makes your cardboard spools fully compatible with Bambulab AMS units, reducing waste and ensuring seamless printing with cardboard spools in your AMS setup.

After extensive testing, I've determined that the adapter made for this specific purpose cannot lock itself to the Sunlu Spool. To address this, I've designed two spool locks: a simple, lightweight lock for basic use, and another that can hold desiccant or weights for added functionality. Optionally, You can superglue the adapter to the core of the Sunlu spool.

These adapters are compatible with the following cardboard spool brands:

Elegoo

Fugacity

FIROS

3DHojor

eSun

Anycubic

⚠️ Note: You MUST use a spool lock or superglue, or you risk the spool coming apart. ⚠️

Assembly Demonstration:

Remove the support and line it up with the spool

(If supergluing, apply to the spool before inserting the adapter)

Remove an outer flange from the cardboard spool and remove the inner ring.

Insert the spool with adapter into the cardboard spool, making sure the notch on the cardboard core lines up with the adapter notch.

Remove the remaining cardboard flange and inner ring, and attach the other half of the Sunlu spool.

After assembled, if not superglued, insert either the basic lock or desiccant lock.
