v8.24 Improved Version Description

Improved movable shaft pins, with increased clearance, enhanced tension, and extended durability

v8.15 Improved Version Description

1. Given the sturdiness of the bayonet mount, we reverted to screw fixation, requiring two M2*8 and two M2*6 self-tapping screws. Main changes: The movable shaft and the left side cover are now fixed with screws

2. Improved stability to prevent it from "walking" on smooth desktops at high power. The base now includes holes for anti-slip pads, requiring four 10mm diameter, 2mm thick anti-slip pads

I. Introduction

The scorching heat is unbearable. Every time I return indoors from outside, I always yearn for a huge gust of wind to carry away the heat from my body and quickly cool down. Therefore, after modeling and multiple modifications and adjustments, I designed this PWM speed control desktop powerful fan, which allows idle CPU fans and case fans to be utilized

The desktop powerful fan supports 12cm 4-pin PWM speed control fans such as 12038 and 12025. Because it uses a 12V decoy adapter with a Type-C interface, supporting high-power fast charging protocols like PD, QC, AFC, and FCP, you can use powerful fans with 4500 RPM or 7000 RPM. A 3A fan can reach 36W of power, offering a stronger perceived airflow than ordinary floor fans. The wind power level is not in the same league as common 5W or 8W desktop mini fans sold on the market. Of course, noise will also increase proportionally, but using PWM speed control can manage airflow and noise. It is recommended to use it with a PD charger of 30W or higher

After the initial model was assembled, it looked a bit goofy, so I added a pair of cat ears. Let's call it "Square Cat". If you don't like the ears, you can cut them off yourself

During the initial design, I used a fixed shaft integrated into the fan housing, but multiple prints showed slight deformation, leading to difficult assembly. After several adjustments, I finally opted for a movable shaft installation and fixation method. This way, even if the shaft wears out later, you can simply print a new shaft separately, reducing usage costs

Considering that different filaments have different shrinkage rates, if you find it difficult to assemble, you can appropriately reduce the volume of the movable shaft; if it feels loose, you can appropriately increase the volume of the movable shaft. Currently, I have reserved a 0.2mm clearance space, and it can be installed by pinching the open slot

Considering that some users have a need for mobile use, I added a 3-slot 18650 battery compartment (in series) inside the base. You can install batteries yourself. For detailed assembly instructions, please refer to the pinned video below

II. Bill of Materials

(I) 12V Single-Channel Fan Speed Controller PWM Speed Controller (Houdexin Electronics, Taobao), 6 yuan

(II) 12V PD Decoy Module. It is recommended to purchase the version that supports multi-protocol fast charging like QC/AFC/FCP (Chengrui Technology, Taobao), 5 yuan

(III) One 4-pin fan (12038 or 12025) and 8 fan screws. It must support PWM speed control. Purchase different power ratings according to personal needs. High-power powerful fans are recommended, which can be powerful or gentle, approximately 20 yuan

(IV) One M2*12 self-tapping screw for fixing the decoy module. It is recommended to also secure it with hot melt glue or similar. I originally used 502 (super glue) to improve the stability when frequently plugging and unplugging the charging cable
